RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Power company officials in Virginia say they have restored power to approximately 65 percent of the more than 250,000 customers who lost power Thursday night and early Friday morning as a result of severe thunderstorms.

Dominion Virginia Power said in a statement Saturday that as of 7 a.m. power had been restored to 169,000 customers. The power company says that customers in the Leesburg, Orange and Charlottesville areas are expected to have power restored by 11 p.m. Saturday.

The power company says the Richmond metro area experienced widespread and significant damage and that they expect to have power restored to the majority of customers there by 11 p.m. Sunday.
