BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - North Dakota Republican Rep. Curtis Hofstad of Devils Lake has died.

Rep. Dennis Johnson of Devils Lake says Hofstad’s family told him that the lawmaker died Saturday of an apparent heart attack. He was born in 1946.

Hofstad was elected to the North Dakota House in 2006. Hofstad was a farmer and served on the state Water Commission from 2001 until he was elected to the Legislature.

The Water Commission manages North Dakota’s water resources.

Gov. Jack Dalrymple and First Lady Betsy Dalrymple say in a statement that Hofstad was a “good friend to both of us and a great leader in North Dakota water management.”
