CALDWELL, Idaho (AP) - Authorities in southwestern Idaho say two bail bondsman shot and wounded a man while attempting to arrest a woman.

According to the Canyon County sheriff’s office, two bail bond agents attempted to take 25-year-old Chelsea M. Johnson into custody Friday when a scuffle broke out. Both bond agents shot their weapons after 26-year-old Marco A. Mejia pointed a gun at them.

Mejia was shot in the head, but his wound is not considered life-threatening. Authorities arrested Johnson after she fled the scene and got into a minor car crash.

The sheriff’s office has not released the names of the bond agents.

According to court records, Johnson had two bench warrants, each $100,000, for failing to appear in court on a felony drug charge and misdemeanor charges of resisting officers and possessing drug paraphernalia.

Idaho law permits bond agents to carry firearms.
