CINCINNATI (AP) - Volunteers are heading to the Ohio River on a cleanup mission.

The annual Ohio River Sweep runs Saturday morning along nearly 3,000 miles of shoreline for the river and its tributaries from Pittsburgh to Cairo, Illinois. Volunteers will help remove trash and debris.

The event began in 1989. It’s organized by the Cincinnati-based Ohio River Valley Water Sanitation Commission, an interstate water pollution agency, with environmental protection and natural resources agencies in Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia.
