MORRIS TOWNSHIP, N.J. (AP) - A corrections officer has died in a shooting at the Morris County jail.

The Daily Record (https://dailyre.co/1Xy8qhl) reports that the man was alone when the shooting occurred shortly before 7 a.m. Sunday at the facility in Morris Township.

County officials declined further comment on the circumstances surrounding the shooting, except to say it never posed a threat to the community. They also noted that the facility remained secure and was operating under normal conditions.

The guard’s name has not been disclosed, pending notification of his family members.

The death is under investigation by the county prosecutor’s office.
