NEWARK, N.J. (AP) - Authorities say a man suspected of stealing a cancer charity donation box was captured after his boss and co-workers recognized him as the alleged thief.

Newark police say 23-year-old Daniel Santos faces a theft charge. But they haven’t said how much money may have been in the box when it was stolen.

The box was taken June 8 from a bakery on Ferry Street. The theft received extensive media coverage and the suspect’s photo was published in newspapers and posted by other media outlets.

Santos was arrested around 7:30 a.m. Saturday at a New York Avenue business where he worked. Authorities say the firm’s owner called police after he and several employees recognized Santos as the suspected culprit.
