EAST BRUNSWICK, N.J. (AP) - A longtime state lawmaker and former Democratic state chairman is no longer a member of New Jersey’s delegation to the Democratic National Committee.

The vote against reappointing Assemblyman John Wisniewski came during a state committee meeting held Saturday at the Democratic Convention in East Brunswick.

Party officials didn’t publicly announce the change or comment on it. A message left Sunday afternoon for state party chairman John Currie at his workplace was not immediately returned.

Wisniewski has been in the Assembly since 1995 and was chairman of Bernie Sanders’ presidential campaign in New Jersey.

A spokesman for Wisniewski said Sunday that the lawmaker was “surprised” by the decision and had been assured it wasn’t on the meeting agenda. Wisniewski had spoken to delegates at the convention but wasn’t present when the committee vote was made.
