PASCAGOULA, Miss. (AP) - A man is back in south Mississippi to face a murder charge in the car crash death of his mother.

The Sun Herald reports (https://bit.ly/1Uiiuuu ) 25-year-old Marshall Austin Smith was returned to the Jackson County jail Friday.

Jackson County Sheriff Mike Ezell says Smith had been jailed in Rankin County the last several months for violating probation in a burglary case.

Smith was arrested on a murder charge in August after he crashed a car while fleeing D’Iberville police. His mother, 45-year-old Millicent Sue Smith, was in the car with him and was killed when it hit a tree.

The chase started after officers responded to a fight at a restaurant.

Smith was previously convicted of burglary in Harrison County and was on probation at the time of the crash.
