DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - Des Moines authorities have identified a motorcyclist they say was killed in a crash while fleeing police.

Police say a patrol officer attempted to stop 25-year-old Vincent Quang, of Des Moines, for a traffic violation around 9:45 p.m. Saturday near 14th and High streets. Police say Quang rode into a convenience store parking lot, indicating that he was stopping, but then accelerated rapidly out of the parking lot.

A police report says the officer didn’t pursue Quang and quickly lost sight of him due to the high speed.

While checking the area for the motorcyclist, police say they found the motorcycle had crashed nearby. Police say Quang was already dead.

An investigation into the crash continues.
