MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - Vermont U.S. Sen. Patrick Leahy had a busy week on Capitol Hill, with the Senate passing a justice funding reauthorization bill he backed.

Included in that package is funding for using DNA in capital cases to clear the innocent and convict the guilty.

The Senate Appropriations Committee, meanwhile, approved another measure pushed by the Democratic senator: Lifting the ban on travel by U.S. citizens to Cuba.

Leahy also was appointed to a conference committee to work out a compromise between the Senate and House on legislation to address the heroin and opioid epidemic that has gripped much of the nation.
