SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) - Prosecutors have charged a 17-year-old boy as an adult in the shooting death of a teenage girl in Sacramento.

The Sacramento Bee reports (https://bit.ly/1t4b6Hq ) that Christopher Simon has been held in Sacramento County juvenile custody since his Monday arrest. Police say he shot 15-year-old Macy Murphy, who was found dead inside a car Sunday.

Simpson leaned forward on the bars of his courtroom cell as the judge read his murder charge, but otherwise showed little reaction to the hearing. His next court date is June 22.

Murphy’s grandmother, Debbie Pacli, said Monday that neither she nor the girl’s mother knew Simpson or knew whether Murphy knew him.

Authorities are still investigating.
