SAGINAW, Mich. (AP) - Another psychiatric evaluation has been approved for a man accused of killing a 10-month-old girl in Saginaw County.

The Saginaw News (https://bit.ly/1TQH0Tg ) reports 28-year-old Michael Lask faces an open count of murder in the March strangulation of Ciana Leigh McCliggott. On Wednesday, a judge approved a request from Lask’s attorney, James Piazza, for an independent evaluation before the judge rules on competency.

In March, the judge had given approval to a request from Piazza for a psychiatric evaluation to determine whether Lask is mentally competent and can be held responsible criminally. That request was for the evaluation to take place at the Center for Forensic Psychiatry in Ypsilanti. Saginaw County contracts with the center for such evaluations.

The request approved Wednesday was for an independent exam done through a doctor who doesn’t contract with the county.
