BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - A Baton Rouge man will serve 50 years in prison for robbing a group of people of $300 after their vehicle ran out of gas.

The Advocate reports (https://bit.ly/1TZ8DrF) a judge sentenced 21-year-old Johndell Raymond Taylor on Wednesday.

Taylor, who was found guilty of armed robbery last year, was sentenced as a second-felony offender.

Taylor was accused of offering to help a group of people whose vehicle ran out of gas in May 2013, and then ordering them to give him their money. Court records show that in addition to the money, the victims were also robbed of a cell phone.

Taylor was 18 years old at the time.

The newspaper reports that Taylor had previous convictions for simple burglary and bank fraud.
