SAUGUS, Mass. (AP) - Authorities have identified a 13-year-old Massachusetts boy who apparently drowned in a pond where swimming is barred.

The Essex district attorney’s office on Monday identified the victim as Jose Angel Capellan Rodriguez.

Police received a report of a swimmer in distress in the Lynn Woods Reservation in Saugus just before 2 p.m. Sunday.

Authorities say the boy, from Lynn, had been in the water with a group of friends and was having difficulty swimming.

The body of water is known as Walden Pond, though it is not the one in Concord made famous by author Henry David Thoreau.

Emergency personnel located the boy around 2:30 p.m. Sunday and tried to resuscitate him. He was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. No foul play is suspected.
