SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - A former Davis County sheriff’s deputy accused of having oral sex with a female inmate has been found not guilty.

The Ogden Standard-Examiner reports (https://bit.ly/28Nxddg ) that a jury acquitted 53-year-old Michael Mueller after about an hour of deliberation.

His lawyer argued the woman instigated the sex as part of a plan to blackmail any officer she could get in a compromising position to get drugs and alcohol in jail.

The woman testified that she felt violated and was shocked when Mueller forced her to perform oral sex in a closet. She denied there was any conspiracy.

Prosecutors said the woman believed she had to do what Mueller said because he was a deputy.

Mueller was fired after an internal investigation in 2014. He was charged in January 2015 with one count of custodial sexual relations.
