KALISPELL, Mont. (AP) - An explosion and fire at a Kalispell apartment building killed a woman and displaced 34 other residents.

The Kalispell Fire Department responded to the fire just before 8 p.m. Friday and evacuated the building while fighting the fire. The fire was contained to two apartments at Glacier State Apartments, which provides low-income housing for people who are 62 or older or disabled.

Flathead County officials identified the victim as 62-year-old Susan Denise Lake. Her body has been taken to the state crime lab for an autopsy.

Glacier State resident Judy Cossette tells the Daily Inter Lake she was in her apartment having dinner when she heard an explosion.

Fire Chief Dave Dedman says half of the building was untouched while apartments near the two that were damaged by fire sustained water, smoke and structural damage.
