YARMOUTH, Maine (AP) - The Maine Department of Transportation will present its plan to rehabilitate a Yarmouth bridge at a public hearing this week.

The Portland Press Herald (https://bit.ly/28IzHtl ) reports that DOT will gather feedback at the hearing on Tuesday in Yarmouth about the proposed $4.9 million project on the U.S. Route 1 bridge.

The project seeks to replace the aging span over Main Street and include sidewalks and ramps connecting the four-lane roadway to Yarmouth village.

Transportation officials say the current bridge is reaching the end of its useful life and there are concerns about the condition of its superstructure.

Officials say the department plans to put a contract out for the bridge work in early 2017. Construction is expected to begin after the Yarmouth Clam Festival in July that year.
