NEWARK, N.J. (AP) - It was a busy weekend for the Newark Police Department’s helicopter, which assisted in 3 arrests, helped confiscate two illegal motorcycles and aided in issuing 22 traffic tickets.

The helicopter directed officers to motorcycles that were being operated illegally, resulting in tickets for an 18-year-old and a 13-year-old.

Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose says the helicopter enables officers to arrest fleeing suspects in vehicles without having to chase them. Ambrose also says the helicopter can observe drug transactions.
