NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (AP) - The State Law Enforcement Division is investigating after a North Myrtle Beach police officer was shot and wounded in the foot while responding to a domestic disturbance.

City spokesman Pat Dowling tells local media that officers were called to a home just outside city limits about 11 p.m. Sunday.

Dowling says a mother and daughter came outside to talk to officers and as they did, the woman’s husband emerged from the home and fired at the officers, hitting one of them. Dowling says the bullet grazed a toe on the officer’s foot.

Police Chief Phillip Webster says officers returned fire but did not hit the man.

Police say 52-year-old Earnail Godbold of North Myrtle Beach fled but was later arrested. Charges include domestic violence, assault and battery and attempted murder.
