RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - Three Franklin County emergency medical service workers and one patient were taken to the hospital after a driver crashed into an ambulance near Raleigh.

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol tells news outlets that the driver of the vehicle that struck the ambulance Sunday morning fled the scene.

Authorities say the driver tried to make a left turn and hit the ambulance as it was heading south on U.S. 1. The driver of the vehicle exited his car and fled on foot.

The EMS workers and the patient were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Authorities continue to investigate the crash.
