PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Officers in Philadelphia inadvertently brought a suspect’s pipe bomb into a police station over the weekend, prompting the evacuation of the building.

Police tell WPVI-TV (https://6abc.cm/28J1GX8) officers were questioning a suspect about a possible straw purchase of a weapon on Saturday night. They say the suspect told them where a gun was buried in a garbage bag and officers retrieved it and brought it into the station. When they opened the bag, they discovered a pipe bomb in addition to the gun.

Fourteen prisoners and 20 staff members were evacuated.

The bomb squad removed the device and detonated it elsewhere.

Lt. Jonah Conway says the bomb wasn’t ticking and it wasn’t clear if the device posed any threat.
