OTEGO, N.Y. (AP) - State police say Interstate 88 in Otsego County has reopened after being closed for several hours in both directions after a tractor-trailer’s gas tanks caught fire when they were hit by a car.

Troopers say a car was headed west around 7:45 a.m. Monday when the driver spotted a deer carcass on the pavement and veered into a truck coming from the opposite direction.

Police say the accident was in the town of Otego (oh-TEE’-goh) between exits 12 and 13 in a construction zone where both eastbound lanes were already closed and the westbound lanes are divided to allow traffic in both directions.

Troopers say the impact caused the truck’s gas tanks to ignite, with flames engulfing the cab, but the driver wasn’t injured.

The car’s driver is being treated for minor injuries.

I-88 reopened in both directions around 1 p.m.
