NEW YORK (AP) - Police say a man tried to sexually assault a woman in New York City and then slashed her neck during a struggle.

It happened early Sunday in Brooklyn. Police say the suspect approached the 25-year-old woman from behind in Bushwick, put a sharp object to her throat and told her to bend over.

The woman screamed for help and broke free after a struggle in which the man slashed her neck, leaving a 4-inch gash. The woman then ran away and took shelter inside a nearby store.

She was hospitalized in stable condition.

No arrests have been made.
