MIDDLEBURGH, N.Y. (AP) - An upstate New York sheriff’s office has requested state police help in investigating a fatal motorcycle crash involving a man who was fleeing from a deputy.

Troopers say a Schoharie County sheriff’s deputy tried to pull over 31-year-old Joshua Camp of Middleburgh for operating an unregistered dirt bike around 7 p.m. Friday in his hometown.

Police say Camp refused to stop and sped off with the deputy in pursuit. Troopers say Camp crashed the bike on a lawn behind a home and was ejected, then was hit by the deputy’s patrol vehicle.

Camp was flown by helicopter to Albany Medical Center, where he later died of his injuries.

The sheriff’s department requested the assistance of state police with the investigation into the crash.
