SURPRISE, Ariz. (AP) - Authorities say a Surprise man is accused of attacking his mother at her home.

Surprise police say 23-year-old Kevin White has been booked into a Phoenix jail on suspicion of attempted first-degree murder, aggravated assault-domestic violence, kidnapping and burglary.

He didn’t have an attorney at his initial court appearance Monday. His bond was set at $500,000.

Police say they received a 911 call about 7 a.m. Sunday from Barbara White saying she was assaulted by her son as she entered her home.

The 50-year-old woman says her son allegedly struck her multiple times in the head with a 15-pound weight and tried to strangle her. She was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Police say Kevin White was located later Sunday at a house near his mother’s home and arrested.
