GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) - A flight team from the University of North Dakota is among 55 taking part in the 40th annual Air Race Classic.

The 2,716-mile race across the U.S. begins Tuesday morning in Prescott, Arizona, and is scheduled to end three days later in Daytona Beach, Florida.

The UND team has four women pilots, from Minnesota, Michigan, Illinois and Virginia. It’s the fourth year that a UND team has taken part.

The race has roots in the 1929 Women’s Air Derby, in which Amelia Earhart and others races from Santa Monica, California, to Cleveland.
