SALTERS, S.C. (AP) - Authorities are investigating after a woman died and her daughter was severely burned in a weekend fire in the Williamsburg County community of Salters.

County Fire Chief Randy Swinton tells local media outlets that crews from four stations responded to the fire that broke out in a mobile home about 4:15 a.m. Saturday.

Authorities say 65-year-old Rosa Lee Palmer was killed in the fire while her 49-year-old daughter Rosezette Morris was severely burned trying to rescue her mother.

The daughter is being treated at the JMS Burn Center in Augusta, Georgia.

The State Law Enforcement Division is assisting in the fire investigation.
