BEAUFORT, S.C. (AP) - Authorities have rescued 14 dogs from a Lowcountry home in which the resident was found dead last week.

Beaufort County Animal Control officials tell WJCL-TV (https://bit.ly/28LJD6U ) that the dogs’ owner had been dead for a week and a half before officials discovered the unidentified Yemassee resident’s body Wednesday. It is unclear how the owner died.

Officials say the dogs, all pit bulls and pit bull mixes, had been neglected prior to their owner’s death but do not appear to be aggressive.

Beaufort County Animal Shelter Director Tallulah Trice told the Island Packet of Hilton Head (https://bit.ly/28PA3P9 ) that, as of Monday, none of the dogs had been adopted.
