CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities say a driver was drunk when he hit two bicyclists in western New York in a weekend crash that left a woman hospitalized with a broken neck.

The Ontario County Sheriff’s Office says a vehicle driven by 49-year-old James McCormick hit Amy Jones and Robert Wallace, who were riding their bicycles on the shoulder of state Route 364 in Canandaigua (kan-un-DAY’-gwuh) late Sunday afternoon.

Jones is hospitalized with serious injuries. Wallace was treated for minor injuries and has been released.

Deputies arrested McCormick at the scene. The charges against him include aggravated vehicular assault, reckless driving and aggravated DWI.

Investigators say McCormick’s blood-alcohol content was more than twice the legal limit.

He’s jailed due to two prior felony convictions. It wasn’t immediately known if he has a lawyer.

McCormick, Jones and Wallace are from Canandaigua.
