NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Nashville authorities are trying to identify apparent human remains that were found by a survey crew in Nashville.

Engineer Mike James tells news outlets that he found the skeletal remains in the woods Monday morning near Metro Center.

North Precinct Commander Terrence Graves says officers have tentatively confirmed that the remains are those of a deceased person. Graves says it appears the person died six months to a year ago.

Investigators aren’t sure if the person died of natural causes. Police say there are several homeless camps in the area.

Graves says the remains will be sent for an autopsy.
