WEST MEMPHIS, Ark. (AP) - Federal authorities say eight people have been arrested in the West Memphis area as part of a federal firearms investigation.

US Attorney Christopher Thyer and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives Resident Agent in Charge Jeffrey Reed announced Thursday that seven suspects from West Memphis and one from Osceola have been arrested since last Friday.

Authorities say the arrests are part of the federal Violence Reduction Network initiative that targeted West Memphis and 10 other cities nationwide.

Each of the eight suspects are charged with being felons in possession of firearms.
