BRUNSWICK, Maine (AP) - A Brunswick police officer has been arrested after he allegedly sent sexually explicit pictures of himself to an undercover federal agent posing as a 13-year-old girl.

Twenty-five-year-old Garrett Brosnan of Bath made his initial appearance in Portland federal court on Wednesday and was ordered to live at home with his parents and not have unsupervised contact with anyone under 18.

Police officials also announced Wednesday that Brosnan was placed on paid administrative leave, pending an internal investigation.

Federal authorities have been investigating Brosnan since October 2015, when the parents of a 13-year-old Arizona girl complained that someone engaged their daughter in an online conversation that was sexual in nature.

Prosecutors say Brosnan sent pictures of his genitals to the undercover agent during several online conversations.

It’s unclear if Brosnan has an attorney.
