ODON, Ind. (AP) - Southwestern Indiana authorities say human remains found in a culvert last year are those of a man who went missing 35 years ago.

The Daviess County Sheriff’s Office says Ira Freeman Kemp has been considered missing since January 1981. His remains were found in April 2015 in the town of Odon, located about 65 miles northeast of Evansville.

The sheriff’s office said Thursday the positive identification came after “extensive” DNA testing conducted on the remains by a team from the University of Northern Texas.

The Evansville Courier & Press reports (https://bit.ly/28SKhQl ) Kemp’s death is now being investigated as a homicide.

The sheriff’s office provided no additional details.
