DENVER (AP) - Thornton officers who fatally shot a man after he injured a police sergeant have been cleared of wrongdoing by the district attorney’s office.

The Denver Post reports (https://dpo.st/28QrUad ) a Wednesday letter from 17th Judicial District Attorney Dave Young says an investigation found no evidence that officers committed any crimes during the March 23 incident.

Daven Hannu had shot Sgt. Pat Long during a traffic stop, then returned to his car and fled the scene. Long pursued Hannu, and the chase was joined by two other police vehicles.

Hannu stopped near where the encounter began and exchanged gunfire with officers. The 51-year-old suspect was killed in the shootout.

The officer who was shot was treated at a hospital and released. Young’s letter says the wounded officer had been shot with BBs.
