GREENWELL SPRINGS, La. (AP) - State police say one man died and two others suffered injuries when a small pickup ran off the road in East Baton Rouge Parish and struck a tree.

Sgt. Jared Sandifer said the accident happened early Friday morning on Louisiana Highway 37, also known as the Greenwell Springs Road.

Sandifer says the pickup’s driver, 27-year-old Rene Lanau of Baton Rouge, died at the scene.

He said Lanau was not wearing a seat belt.

Sandifer says two passengers in the truck, a 21-year old-female and a 30-year-old male, also were unrestrained at the time of the crash.

He says the passengers were taken to Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center in Baton Rouge with minor to moderate injuries.
