JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) - Authorities say a Jacksonville police officer shot and wounded a suspected gang member during a traffic stop.

The Florida Times-Union (https://goo.gl/7u6xzR ) reports that the shooting occurred Thursday night.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office says the officer made multiple attempts to pull over 24-year-old Keith Lawrence Crowder, who finally stopped in front of a home whose occupants he knew. Authorities say Crowder got out of his car, despite orders to get back into his vehicle.

Undersheriff Pat Ivey says something occurred that caused the officer to fire twice, hitting Crowder. A gun and drugs were found later during a search of Crowder’s car.

Crowder was hospitalized in serious condition. Authorities say he had been speeding and spinning his tires before the traffic stop.
