CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (AP) - A Massachusetts bicyclist struck and killed by a landscaping truck is being mourned.

Massachusetts General Hospital’s Institute of Health Professions said Friday the 27-year-old Amanda Phillips was a “bright and vibrant student.”

The Cambridge resident was working toward her nursing degree and was expected to graduate in 2017.

Phillips was hit by the truck in an intersection in Cambridge’s busy Inman Square at about 12:20 p.m. Thursday. She was taken to a local hospital, where she later died.

Phillips also worked at Diesel Café in Somerville, which closed early Friday so employees could grieve. On its Facebook page, cafe staff described Phillips “as genuine and kind as they come.”

The investigation into the accident is ongoing. Witnesses said Phillips appeared to swerve into the truck to avoid an SUV.
