GARRISON, N.D. (AP) - Fort Stevenson State Park near Garrison is hosting Frontier Military Days this weekend.

The event gives visitors a chance to experience what life was like at an 1870s military fort. Activities take place from 1-4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

Members of the Frontier Army of Dakota will set up authentic tents and gear in front of the Guardhouse Interpretive Center. Cannon maneuvers will start at 3:30 p.m. and a cannon will fire at 4 p.m. each day.

Daily activities also will include baking, tomahawk-throwing demonstrations, butter making, corn shelling, rope making, and black powder gun demonstrations. There’s also a pie baking contest.
