NEW ORLEANS (AP) - A New Orleans man faces a federal criminal charge in connection with a scandal that resulted in a school board member’s resignation and guilty plea.

U.S. Attorney Kenneth Polite (poh-LEET’) says in a Thursday news release that 68-year-old Lester Mornay was charged in a bill of information with conspiracy to commit bribery. The case resulted in a guilty plea from former Orleans Parish School Board member Ira Thomas in 2015.

Thomas was sentenced to a year in prison for taking a $5,000 bribe to influence the awarding of a janitorial services contract. Prosecutors say Mornay acted as a “conduit” who helped get the money to Thomas.

Court records did not indicate whether Mornay has an attorney who could comment for him.
