COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - Police say a man has died after falling from a railroad bridge while trying to avoid a passing train in central Ohio.

The Columbus Dispatch (https://bit.ly/28RIWW1) reports that Columbus police and fire crews were called around 1:30 p.m. Thursday to an overpass where they found the man on the road under the bridge.

A police spokeswoman says the man was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His name wasn’t immediately released.

Witnesses told police that the man was on the bridge, trying to squeeze by a passing train when he fell.

Authorities say the train did not hit the man, but Norfolk Southern Railroad also is investigating.
