SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - U.S. Rep. Mia Love is backing out of her role as a delegate to the Republican National Convention in Cleveland.

Utah GOP chairman James Evans says Love wants to instead campaign in Utah during the July convention.

Love is facing a competitive re-election race against Democrat Doug Owens this November and has so far distanced herself from presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump.

Love told The Associated Press in May that she’s not endorsed Trump and doesn’t want him to campaign with her.

Dave Hansen, Love’s campaign strategist, told The Salt Lake Tribune on Friday (https://bit.ly/28WOZf7 ) that he didn’t know if the Republican congresswoman decided to skip the convention because of Trump, but she felt like she wouldn’t be able to help Utah at the convention.
