MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. (AP) - Muscle Shoals school employees will be receiving a 7 percent pay increase this year.

Muscle Shoals City Schools Superintendent Brian Lindsey tells the TimesDaily of Florence (https://bit.ly/28QIYga ) that the school board has added a 3 percent local raise to a 4 percent state-mandated raise that was approved by state lawmakers earlier this year.

School finance officer Sarita Tapscott says the raises would cost the school system about $850,000.

The raises take effect with the beginning of the contract year for each employee, with contracts typically starting in August for teachers and July for administrators.
