SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities say a 27-year-old man shouted for a gun to kill Syracuse police officers who responded to a shooting that left another man dead and his pregnant fiancee wounded.

Syracuse police say Takim Hawkins shouted for someone to get a rifle and spray officers with gunfire in the chaotic moments after a fight broke out Sunday night during a Father’s Day party.

Authorities say 41-year-old Gary Porter died, and his 31-year-old fiancee suffered a gunshot wound to her leg.

Officials say a Syracuse police officer fired her weapon after she was faced with a dangerous situation. It’s not known yet who shot Porter and his fiancee.

Hawkins was charged Wednesday inciting a riot. He’s free on bail. A phone call to a listing in his name rang unanswered Friday.
