MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - A Rutland High School junior has been appointed to one of two student seats on the Vermont Board of Education.

The appointment of Connor Solimano was announced Thursday by Gov. Peter Shumlin.

Solimano has been active in student government. He also serves as the student representative on the school board for the Rutland City Public Schools.

Shumlin calls Solimano “a rising star” who has served his community and made a difference at his school.

Solimano will serve in a non-voting capacity for one year and become a voting member of the board as a high school senior during his second year on the board.
