SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - The temporary superintendent of public instruction has been selected to stay in the job as Utah’s new state schools superintendent.

The state school board announced Thursday night that Sydnee Dickson was selected for the post.

She has worked for the state board of education since 2007. Before that, she worked in the Granite, Davis and Murray school districts as an administrator and in other school leadership positions.

Dickson was one of two finalists that the school board interviewed for the position Thursday night.

She replaces Brad Smith, who resigned in February after about a year on the job.

Gov. Gary Herbert says Dickson has done an excellent job serving as the interim superintendent over the past few months.
