FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) - A South Florida man has been sentenced to 7 ½ years in prison for a hit-and-run crash that killed one boy and injured another.

The Sun Sentinel (https://goo.gl/m54vnm) reports that 24-year-old Zachary Benjamins was sentenced Thursday after pleading no contest to leaving the scene of a fatal accident and tampering with evidence.

Authorities say Benjamins was driving home from the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in December 2014 when he hit and killed Apollo Brown Jr. and injured Kelv’ron Florence.

Prosecutors say Benjamins tried to get the truck repaired without reporting the crash, but the shop’s owner called investigators after learning that debris at the scene matched the vehicle in his shop.
