CANTON, Conn. (AP) - Connecticut officials say they’ve responded to two separate incidents involving bears within 24 hours in Canton.

State environmental conservation police responded Friday evening to a report of a dead bear in a heavily wooded area near Barbourtown Road.

A state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection wildlife biologist performed a necropsy and determined the bear had been shot.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information about how the bear was shot is asked to contact the environmental police.

In a separate incident, authorities say a woman reported Friday that she was “nipped” by a bear while gardening. Police set up a trap on the property but say they haven’t caught the bear. The incident remains under investigation.
