WATERBURY, Vt. (AP) - The Vermont State Police Marine Division is going to be working with other agencies this weekend to promote safe and sober boating.

State Police troopers will be working this weekend with the Grand Isle sheriff’s department, the Colchester Police Marine Patrol and the Burlington Coast Guard station as part of the national Operation Dry Water campaign.

The goal of the campaign is to reduce the number of boating while intoxicated incidents by increasing awareness and recreational boater education along with visible police enforcement.

The operation is designed to spread awareness of the danger of boating under the influence of alcohol, which is the leading contributing factor in recreational boater deaths.
