ST. ALBANS, Vt. (AP) - A new treatment center for people addicted to opiates is going to be opening in St. Albans.

Gov. Peter Shumlin and Health Commissioner Dr. Harry Chen say the center that will open in January will expand the state’s opiate addiction treatment facilities.

The new treatment center will be the eighth regional facility in what is known as the hub and spoke system of care.

The hub will offer comprehensive addiction and mental health treatment services for residents of Franklin and Grand Isle counties with opioid use disorders. In its first year it is expected to serve at least 250 Vermonters.

Shumlin says the new facility will serve Vermonters in need, when they need it and where they need it.
