PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Authorities say two men working underground at an electrical substation in central Philadelphia were burned in a flash fire.

Police said the fire happened shortly before 5 p.m. Monday at a PECO substation on Market Street.

A police spokeswoman said a 35-year-old man sustained 2nd- and 3rd-degree burns on his body. He was taken to the Temple University hospital burn unit and reported in stable condition.

The other worker was left with superficial burns on his face and was taken to Penn Presbyterian Hospital.

PECO spokesman Ben Armstrong said the workers were a company employee and a contractor.
